Pivot Irrigation Technician
Silver Lion Farms is looking for a dependable and experienced Pivot Irrigation Technician to join our team in White Pine County, Ely, Nevada.
About the Position
The Pivot Irrigation Technician will maintain and repair our AgSense/Valley Pivot system. This position will be responsible for ensuring the functionality and reliability of our irrigation systems and will perform routine maintenance on all irrigation equipment including Pivots and Wells.
Typical shift hours: Hours can vary but typically are Monday – Friday from 7 – 3:30 pm. Additional hours are required during our busy season, including occasional weekend days.
This position will require you to be on call for breakdowns
Location: This is an onsite position at our Ely, Nevada location at 30955 N. Alt, US-93, Ely, NV 89301 (Near the intersection of US Rt 93 & US Alt Route 93).

Core Duties & Responsibilities:
Pivot Irrigation:
- Ensures pivots are fully operational and watering as per designed farm plan at the direction of the Farm Manager.
- Ensures pivots are placed optimally in preparation for Swathing, Raking, and Baling.
- Ensures water is turned back on after harvest per farm schedule at the direction of the Farm Manager.
- Physically inspects each pivot twice a day to ensure that the pivot is moving and operating as intended; correct as required.
Repairs and Maintenance:
- The Pivot Irrigation Technician will oversee the performance and maintenance of our irrigation systems.
- Performs repairs, maintenance, and installations when necessary.
- Thoroughly cleans machines and machine parts, removing parts and reinstalling, as necessary.
- Identifies and repairs pivot system issues and prepares for winter/seasonal maintenance.
- Coordinates with farm manager, to schedule regular maintenance inspections or repairs and services on all wells and pivots.
- Coordinates with greenhouse manager to schedule regular maintenance inspections or repairs for Well #1, which supplies all water to our greenhouse operations.
- Changing tires, gearboxes, swing arms, motors and oils.
- Changing u-joints, valves and pumps.
- Replacing drops and nozzles.
- Makes any necessary modifications to implement and performs test runs of equipment prior to field use.
Other Duties:
- Trains others as needed on pivot systems.
- Cleans, organizes, inventories, stocks, and otherwise maintains parts, tools, and supplies on a regular basis.
- Operate forklift, farm tractors, backhoe, and loader.
- Needs to be comfortable and confident to work on ladders at elevated heights.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supportive Functions:
- May be required to help with general field operations at peak season or slow mechanical periods throughout the year, as deemed necessary by management.
- Meets with manager regarding water and soil test results and makes additional alterations as necessary to maintain optimal water depth in fields during the season.
- Communicates with the farm manager and/or the purchasing team to order replacement parts and stock items as needed.
- 2+ years of pivot irrigation system experience and familiar with corner/swing arms, radio wires, gearboxes etc.
- Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver's license
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision, including some holidays or weekends during peak seasons
- Experience in farm/agricultural operations
- Experience driving and operating forklifts, farm tractors, backhoe, and loader
- Knowledge of computers, email and mobile apps
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail
- Must be able and willing to work in all weather conditions
Nice to Have
- Experience with AgWorld or similar programs
- Experience with AgSense/Valley base station app
- Experience with AsSense/Valley Irrigation Pivots
- CDL is a bonus

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to climb, squat, bend, twist, stand for up to 8-10 hours per day and lift up to 50 pounds

- Must be able to climb ladders and maintain balance
