is looking for an experienced leader to join our team as our Accounting Department Manager. This is a full-time, remote position based in the Pacific Time Zone (8 am - 5 pm Monday-Friday).

About the Position
Our Accounting Department Manager, is critical to ensuring the financial integrity, accuracy, and compliance of two distinct but growing business entities—one in sustainable agriculture and the other in the highly regulated cannabis industry. The purpose of this role is to provide strong financial leadership, streamline reporting, and support informed decision-making across both organizations. This role will oversee financial operations across the two separate entities and report to the CFO.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced financial leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands the nuances of managing complex regulatory and industry-specific compliance, and can produce accurate, timely reporting to support business decision-making. Core Duties & Responsibilities
Financial Accounting

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close process for both the alfalfa and cannabis entities.
  • Manage the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Manages preparation and on time presentation of information for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, audits, and reviews.
  • Consolidate financial reporting for both entities and identify key metrics to improve financial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP) and industry-specific regulations, particularly within the cannabis space.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Management Accounting & Analysis

  • Prepare standard operational management reports tailored to the needs of the department leads.
  • Prepare customized reports/analyses required for stakeholders to make informed decisions as required.
  • Provide financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provides financial analyses as needed for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

Budgeting

  • With the support of the CFO, prepare and regularly update forecasts and budgets.

Payroll Management

  • Oversee payroll processing across both companies, ensuring compliance with multi-state tax regulations.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings and related compliance.

Tax, Audit, & Compliance

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for tax filings, audits, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain readiness for external audits and ensure financial documents are always audit-ready.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee the maintenance and optimization of financial systems, including accounting software and payroll platforms.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements and controls for greater efficiency, fraud protection, and accuracy.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Leads the company’s annual insurance renewals with the support of the CFO.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as an accountant or similar senior-level accounting role.
  • 4+ years of experience as an accounting team manager.
  • Based in Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zone.
  • Experience executing and leading a monthly close process.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP; experience in the cannabis industry is a plus.
  • Experience with payroll systems and multi-state payroll compliance.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet strict reporting deadlines.
  • Expert in QuickBooks and Excel.
  • Must be willing/able to work during Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones.
  • Ability to construct the three financial statements and Net Present Value (NPV) cash flow analysis.
  • Ability to consistently establish and meet timelines and to think and communicate succinctly.
